Patrick Flaherty

Sports Producer for Boston CityTV

Patrick Flaherty is the sports producer, anchor, and play-by-play announcer for Boston City TV and the Boston Neighborhood Network (BNN).

He does an incredible amount for the local sports community. In his work, Patrick:

  • produces Live Game of the Week coverage for Boston Public School athletic teams for City TV and BNN
  • reports weekly on City school and neighborhood sports for Neighborhood Network News (NNN), and
  • creates feature stories on outstanding student athletes in Boston.

Patrick started working with our department’s Broadband and Cable team in 2005. He was first hired for a Northeastern University co-op position, and has been with the team ever since.

An Attleboro native, Patrick loves covering high school and middle school sports. He’s a former athlete – Patrick played both football and basketball while growing up. He says his experience playing high school sports established the strong work ethic he still has today.

Patrick loves a good game. He says it’s thrilling to cover a close basketball game in a packed gym. He also loves to cover football games, especially in the fall when it’s so beautiful outside.

One of Patrick’s favorite games to cover was the February 2012 championship basketball game between Madison Park High School and East Boston High School. East Boston scored three points with 10 seconds left in the game, putting the game into overtime. While in overtime, East  took control, racking up a bunch of offensive rebounds and taking home the title in a 60-59 win. Patrick says he remembers the East Boston athletes jumping on top of each other in excitement.

Of course, Patrick is also an avid Boston sports fan. He says his love for Boston sports runs in his blood – growing up, Patrick would gather with family and friends to watch big games.
