Racism: A Public Health Crisis
On June 12, 2020, the City of Boston declared racism a public health crisis.
The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is committed to addressing:
- the impact that racism has on the lives of all of our neighbors, and
- how it impacts the overall health of our residents.
We recognize the history and ongoing reality of racism. Racism continues to negatively impact Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC). BPHC affirms that the lives of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) matter, and denounce all forms of racism.
BPHC envisions a thriving Boston where all residents live healthy, fulfilling lives. We want residents to have lives free of racism, poverty, violence, and other systems of oppression. All residents will have equitable opportunities and resources leading to optimal health and well-being.
