Upcoming Diversions and ShutdownsJune 6, 2026 – may 18, 2029
Green Line E Branch service will bypass Symphony Station from June 6, 2026 to May 18, 2029 for accessibility improvements. Trolleys will operate through Symphony in both directions but will not stop.

Riders can board or disembark at Northeastern University or Prudential, which are 0.3 miles away from Symphony.

Riders may instead utilize Orange Line service at Massachusetts Avenue, 0.1 miles from Symphony.
- Riders may instead utilize parallel Route 39 bus service.
Jul 21 – 30
Red Line service will be suspended between Alewife & Park St on July 21 – July 30 for signal upgrades, infrastructure upgrades, track renewal, and other critical revitalization work.
Free and accessible shuttle bus service will make all stops between Alewife and Park St. An express shuttle will be available between Harvard Square and the South Station Bus Terminal.
- Riders using regular, non-express shuttle buses should budget at least 70 minutes of travel time between Alewife and Park Street.
- Accessible van service will be available on weekdays between Alewife and Park Street. See station personnel to request this service.
- Alternatively, riders may take Bus Routes 69, 87, 88, 89, 91, and 109 from Davis Square, Harvard Square, and Central Square to connect with the inbound Green Line (Medford/Tufts and Union Square branches) to travel to Park Street.
Riders should also consider fare-free Commuter Rail service on the Fitchburg Line between Porter Square and North Station. Regular fares will apply beyond Porter Square.
