Urban Wilds: Roslindale
The Urban Wilds Initiative seeks to protect the City's publicly-owned urban wilds and thereby ensure access and enjoyment of natural treasures to present and future Boston residents.
Roslindale Wetlands
DESCRIPTION
Once called Eldon Street Urban Wild, this property contains a large wetland in addition to woodland and meadow areas. Private residences surround the property on nearly all sides except for formal entrances on Walter Street, Weld Street, Hazelmere Road, the intersection of Robken Road and Selwyn Street, as well as Coniston Road. The wetland helps absorb and clean storm water from the surrounding neighborhood before the water flows back into the storm water pipe system and eventually the Charles River. Two phases of capital improvement projects spanned between 2020 and 2024, resulting in a long-awaited trail loop, formalized trails and entrances, and substantial ecological restoration in the form of invasive plant removal and native plant additions.
