Install Or Replace Washer, Dishwasher, Or Garbage Disposal
If you’re replacing or installing washers, dishwashers, or garbage disposals you’ll need to hire a contractor who can apply for a Plumbing Permit and perform the work.

Who can install or replace?
Only a contractor with a valid, non-expired Massachusetts trade license may apply for a Plumbing Permit and perform any plumbing work related to installing or replacing these appliances.
What permits do I need?
Plumbing Permit
- If you are only replacing or installing a sink, toilet, shower, or bathtub and no other work needs to be done, such as opening up walls.
Electrical Permit
- Only if you need to install, move, or repair any electrical wiring.
