Hancock Mansion Door Project

How the John Hancock Mansion demolition spurred the preservation movement in America.

May 17, 2018
Event Date2018-05-17T17:30:00 - 2018-05-17T19:00:00

Governor John Hancock's mansion on Beacon Hill was demolished in 1863, and parts of the building were sold off or given away. The original front door recently emerged from storage as the Bostonian Society, its steward, seeks to exhibit the historic artifact. Students from the North Bennet Street School Preservation Carpentry program have been commissioned to build a full-scale reproduction of the fine Georgian home's opulent surrounding entryway, which will go on exhibit in the Old State House in June 2018. Full story here.

Co-sponsors North Bennet Street School and the Bostonian Society. Free and open to the public.
