The Civic Summit is an event designed to unite neighbors, civic leaders, and nonprofit advocates in a dynamic forum. This Summit is dedicated to fostering connections, sharing knowledge, and igniting inspiration for positive change within our communities.

Our goal is to provide a platform where attendees can engage in invaluable networking opportunities. We want to establish meaningful connections that go beyond the boundaries of neighborhoods and organizations. Through carefully curated workshops, attendees will gain practical insights and strategies to implement in their respective spheres of influence, driving tangible progress.

In addition to the workshops, our panel discussions will serve for inspiration, featuring thought leaders and experts in various fields. Their insights, coupled with the interactions among attendees, are sure to spark innovative ideas and creative solutions for the challenges facing our communities.

The doors will open at 9:30 a.m. This time is dedicated for attendees to:

  • arrive at the venue
  • sign in at the registration desk, and
  • receive their QR Code Name Tags.

We encourage participants to arrive early to ensure a smooth check-in process, allowing ample time to settle in before the official program begins.

Join us for an enlightening fireside chat with Oliver Sellers-Garcia, Boston's first Green New Deal Director and a cabinet-level Senior Advisor to Mayor Michelle Wu. In this session, we'll explore Oliver's extensive experience in advancing climate action while addressing social, racial, and economic inequalities. The chat, moderated by Jaye Meakem, the Boston Harbor Now's Community Engagement Manager,  will focus on the crucial role of federal funding in climate change initiatives and offer guidance for civic leaders on how to access these resources. Navigating Contemptuous Conversations: Mediation and Consensus Building

Delve into the art of conflict resolution with our "Navigating Contemptuous Conversations" learning session. Led by the Consensus Building Institute associates Elizabeth Cooper and Brandon Chambers, and designed for those eager to master mediation and consensus-building in challenging dialogues. Participants will learn how to de-escalate emotionally charged discussions, enhance their listening and communication skills, and find common ground. The session focuses on ethical considerations, self-care in mediation, and the practical application of these skills in real-life scenarios. Join us to transform how you navigate contentious conversations with poise and effectiveness.

Enjoy a delightful lunch while Side Presents, a Boston-based creative production company, will be the Civic Summit’s featured emcee. Side Presents will facilitate engaging networking activities, designed to foster connections and create a dynamic and enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees

Join us at "Becoming a Civic Leader" an interactive panel discussion moderated by Chief Brianna Millor of the Community Engagement Cabinet. Gain essential skills for effective community leadership from M. Lee Pelton, president and CEO of The Boston Foundation, Matthew Broude, Co-founder of The Queer Neighborhood Council, Commissioner Kristen McCosh, the city's Disability Commissioner and President of BU SOCA and youth leader Brianna Bourne. This session will delve into understanding civic roles, developing key leadership traits, mastering community engagement, and navigating ethical dilemmas. This panel promises to inspire and transform your approach to civic leadership.

Join Eric Leslie, the Founder and Lead Organizer of Union Capital, for the "Empowering Change: How to Fund Your Inspiration" workshop or master your social media skills with our "EmpowerED Leveraging Social Media for Community Impact" led by Emily Schario, the Head of Content for The B-Side.

EmpowerED: Leveraging Social Media for Community Impact

Embark on a journey to master social media for community building with our "EmpowerED". This interactive session, tailored for civic leaders, will unlock the secrets of using platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to amplify community engagement. Learn to select the right platform based on your community's needs, create compelling content, drive meaningful interactions, and employ inclusive communication methods. Led by Emily Schario, the Head of Content and Lead Writer for The B-Side at Boston Globe Media, this session will be your guide to making a significant impact in your community through the power of social media.

We end the day with a relaxed environment for attendees to enjoy an afternoon tea and light refreshments while engaging in informal networking, sharing insights, and building new connections as the day progresses. This final session features closing remarks, reflecting on the day's highlights and achievements.
