Acquisition Type: Internal Transfer - Planning Department to Boston Parks and Recreation Department

Size: 0.12 acres

Union Street Park was originally acquired by the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) in 1961. In 1995, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the BRA and the New England Holocaust Committee allowed for the construction of the New England Holocaust Memorial on the site.

The Memorial was dedicated in October, 1995 and is included on the Public Art Commission’s Public Art Map. In 2025, ownership of the park was transferred from the BRA to BPRD to ensure its permanent protection under Article 97 of the Massachusetts Constitution.
