Roslindale Wetlands Urban Wild

Location: 108 Walter Street, Roslindale

Acquisition Type: LAND Grant

Size: .86 acres

104 & 108 Walter Street were acquired by the Boston Planning and Development Agency in 2020. The parcel at 104 Walter Street was designated for affordable housing, and the parcel at 108 Walter St was transferred to the Boston Conservation Commission for permanent protection as part of the Roslindale Wetlands Urban Wild under Article 97 of the Massachusetts Constitution. At the time, this parcel was the largest unprotected property within the Roslindale Wetlands Urban Wild. Acquisition of this parcel allowed for improved trail connections, habitat protection, and an increased buffer along the edge of the Urban Wild. BPRD’s Urban Wilds program has constructed a new entrance at the site to improve access from Walter Street and connection to the Arnold Arboretum.

Sherrin Woods Urban WIld

Sherrin

Location: 0 Dale Street, Roslindale

Acquisition Type: Community Preservation Act Funded

Size: 1.1 acres

This parcel was acquired in 2024 as an addition to the Sherrin Woods Urban Wild. Sherrin Woods is a 25 acre site in Hyde Park near the Roslindale neighborhood line which features scenic trails running through forested wetlands, meadows, and large outcrops for rock climbing.

The acquisition will preserve the heavily wooded site and complete the conservation of an entire city block by integrating the parcel with adjacent open spaces at Sherrin Woods Urban Wild and DCR’s Weider Park. The newly-acquired parcel  is permanently protected by both a conservation restriction and Article 97 of the Massachusetts Constitution.
