Civilian Review Board

First created in 2020, the Civilian Review Board reviews complaints against sworn and civilian members of the Boston Police Department.

The Civilian Review Board (CRB) is an independent board of Boston residents charged with reviewing and investigating certain complaints against the Boston Police Department (BPD) and its employees.

Housed within the Office of Police Accountability and Transparency, the CRB has the power and duty to:

  • review and make determinations regarding complaints made against the BPD
  • review instances where a BIPOC officer is disciplined or terminated, and
  • review, investigate, and make recommendations with regard to allegations of disparate treatment by BPD in recruiting, hiring, promotion, discipline, and termination of members of the BPD.
