Open studios encourages residents to visit art studios and meet artists in their neighborhoods.
Mayor Martin J. Walsh, The Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture, and the Boston Open Studios Coalition today announced the 2017 Season of Boston Open Studio events. Throughout Boston, neighborhoods will host Open Studios and Art Walk Events, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to explore neighborhoods, meet artists, purchase artwork and learn about artists' creative practice.
"As we continue to support artists in Boston, open studios offer artists an opportunity to share their work from the comfort of their own studio," said Mayor Walsh. "Open studios is also a great way to showcase the cultural offerings that exist in every corner of the city."
Just as each neighborhood in the city is unique, so are the open studio events. Each one features a variety of artists who work in different mediums, from wood to ceramics, printmaking, painting, mixed media, graphic design, jewelry and other mediums. There are group shows, as well as the opportunity to learn more about the working environment and techniques employed by individual artists.
"Open studios are a friendly, accessible way for the community to connect with local artists and get an up close and personal look at their creative process," said Julie Burros, Chief of Arts and Culture for the City of Boston. "We look forward to seeing a wide variety of artwork throughout this year's open studios."
"Being part of Roslindale Open Studios allows me to connect face to face not only with dozens of other artists, but also year-after-year with my customers," said Chris Lang, a local photographer. "I love having the chance to speak with them each year about my work, helping them add to their collections or just catching up and showing them my latest works."

The Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture's mission is to support artists, the cultural sector, and to promote access to the arts for all.
