School Vacation Week programs await families at Boston Public Library locations

BOSTON – February 11, 2014 – Boston Public Library offers numerous programs for children, teens, and families during school vacation week; including Olympic-themed events, musical performances, Black History Month commemorations, and more.

Saturday, February 15:

Third Annual Boston Storytelling Festival on Saturday, February 15, from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m in Rabb Lecture Hall at the Central Library in Copley Square, located at 700 Boylston Street.
Learn to Knit on Saturday, February 15, at 11 a.m. at the Faneuil Branch, located at 419 Faneuil Street in Brighton.
Chess Instruction on Saturday, February 15, at 11 a.m. at the Honan-Allston Branch, located at 300 North Harvard Street in Allston.
Creating Textile with Adinkra Symbols on Saturday, February 15, at 2:30 p.m. at the Mattapan Branch, located at 1350 Blue Hill Avenue.

Tuesday, February 18:

Geography Games & Puzzles in the Norman B. Leventhal Map Center on Tuesday, February 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Library in Copley Square, located at 700 Boylston Street.

Crabgrass Puppet Theatre Performance: The show for children ages three and up features puppets in bright colors telling tales from India, West Africa, and Greece on Tuesday, February 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Charlestown Branch, located at 179 Main Street.

Quilts of the Underground Railroad: Learning how quilt patterns were used to send secret messages to those traveling the Underground Railroad, teens will make their own patterns using the coded symbols. Tuesday, February 18, at 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hall Branch, located at 41 Geneva Avenue in Dorchester.
Wii Winter Olympics: Play as your chosen country in various Winter Olympic events during the week at 3 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, February 18, at 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded on Friday to the countries (players) with the most medals at the Adams Street Branch, located at 690 Adams Street in Dorchester.
Happy Birthday to the Presidents: Presidential crafts, snacks, and fun await children during this birthday party for presidents on Tuesday, February 18, at 3:30 p.m. at the Central Library in Copley Square, located at 700 Boylston Street.
