First elected in 2020, Liz Breadon is serving her fourth term as District 9 City Councilor, and is honored to represent all residents of Allston-Brighton at City Hall. In 2026, Councilor Breadon was elected as Boston City Council President. She is the first openly LGBTQ+ woman elected to the Boston City Council, the first openly LGBTQ+ woman to serve as Boston City Council President, and the first Council President to represent Allston-Brighton. 

Councilor Breadon was inspired to pursue elected office and public service following her experiences as a community activist in Allston-Brighton. Prior to her time in office, she was a community organizer in Allston-Brighton for over 20 years, and was involved in such efforts as the creation of the Presentation School Foundation Community Center and the preservation of the Faneuil Branch of the Boston Public Library.  Councilor Breadon remains deeply rooted in community and collaboration, and brings her experience in grassroots advocacy to City Hall. 

During her time on the Council, Councilor Breadon has worked to elevate the urgent issues faced by Allston-Brighton and its diverse residents. She has secured record-breaking commitments to affordable housing, launched a community-wide campaign to build a community center in Allston, secured funding for improvements to science classrooms at Brighton High School, helped to advance multiple improvement projects for City-owned parks in Allston-Brighton, and obtained funding to support youth workers in the District. As Allston-Brighton has grown, Councilor Breadon has also successfully advocated for comprehensive planning efforts, safer streets, housing production, affordable housing creation, and improvements to public transit. She will continue to advocate for Allston-Brighton and more equitable access to public services for its residents in her upcoming term. 

During her time as Council President, Councilor Breadon seeks to cultivate a culture of mutual respect amongst the Council. She will advocate for zoning reform, bold solutions to our housing crisis, safer streets, prioritization of public transit, improvements to Boston Public Schools, and increased climate resiliency. She strongly believes that Boston must continue to lead by protecting immigrants, advancing racial and economic justice, investing in public education, by treating housing as a human right, and by standing firmly for LGBTQ+ equality, reproductive freedom, and the dignity of all people.

Councilor Breadon immigrated to the United States from Northern Ireland in 1995. She lives in Brighton with her spouse, Mary McCarthy. She is a graduate of the University of Ulster, UK, and received a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Simmons College.
