Art for a Change marks a powerful intersection of youth perspective and environmental action. This exhibition showcases the work of Boston middle school students who have transformed local climate data like coastal flooding and urban heat into a collective vision for a sustainable home.
The core of this collection lies in the transition from vulnerability to vitality. Students engaged in a rigorous curriculum of local climate hazards developed by the Office of Emergency Management. This allowed them to identify how their specific neighborhoods are impacted by a changing environment. Rather than focusing on devastation, these artists utilized their findings to engineer hope.
The resulting artworks explore the concept of "Radical Resilience." These pieces do not merely imagine a city that survives; they imagine a Boston that thrives. This exhibition serves as a reminder that the most vital tool in climate adaptation is the imagination of the next generation. These young Bostonians aren't just observing the future, they are designing it.
This exhibition is organized by Galleries and Exhibitions Manager, Mariana Rey in collaboration with Kendall Basham, Office of Emergency Management. The Art for a Change program is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program.
