Climate Tech Startups, Come Partner with Boston!
As Boston makes progress towards its carbon neutrality and climate resilience goals, the City is expanding opportunities to support local climate technology innovators.
One example is the CriticalMass pilot program, which connects startup companies to project partners and up to $1,000,000 in funding.
Criticalmass Pilot Opportunity
The City of Boston is a proud partner in the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s CriticalMass program, a new growth-stage Tech-to-Market program offering up to $1 million in grant funding, specialized services, and partner matchmaking to startups with strong track records of early-stage commercialization and successful demonstration projects.
Through the CriticalMass program, the City is interested in technologies that advance Boston's climate goals, with a focus for resilience-related technologies.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
The CriticalMass program applies to startup companies interested in deploying their TRL 8+ climate tech innovations.

Project Areas
The City is interested in climate technology that will advance Boston's climate goals. These climate goals include:
- reducing community-wide carbon emissions by 50% in 2030 and 100% in 2050
- reducing municipal emissions by 60% in 2030 and 100% in 2050
- implementing coastal resilience and adaptation projects to close all near-term pathways
- reducing localized temperatures and increasing access to cooling resources
- reducing disruption and damage from severe precipitation.
Priority project areas include urban heat mitigation and equitable cooling access, flood resilience, and technologies that address broader urban resilience challenges. We also welcome building technologies that support large-scale retrofitting and reduce embodied carbon.
