Community Health and Public Safety

Public health and public safety must be intertwined to provide the services our communities need.

The City and its community partners work to keep Boston the safest major city in the country.

Health and Safety Services

The City and community partners work to keep Boston as the safest major city in the country. The FY27 budget continues to make sure that our first responders are well-staffed and adequately dispatched to provide critical health services.

  • BPD and BFD will continue cadet programs to create pipelines for younger residents interested in public safety careers
  • A recent capital investment to upgrade the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system ensures that 911 call-takers will be able to receive and dispatch calls reliably.
  • BEST clinicals and the Youth Connect program will continue existing efforts to provide alternatives to police intervention
  • The Community Safety team was moved from the office of Human Services to the Boston Public Health Commission to reaffirm the city’s commitment to a health-centered approach to community violence.
