Immigrant Heritage Month
Boston’s immigrant communities, who continue to shape the city’s culture, economy, and neighborhoods, are being honored by the Council through the recognition of June 2026 as Immigrant Heritage Month.
The Council adopted a resolution offered by Councilors Santana, Mejia, and Pepén recognizing and celebrating Immigrant Heritage Month in the City of Boston.
The resolution highlights Immigrant Heritage Month as a national observance established in 2014 to celebrate the contributions, resilience, courage, and achievements of immigrants across the United States. It also notes the significant role immigrants play in Boston’s population, economy, and civic life, including contributions to business ownership, workforce participation, and the city’s cultural diversity.
The measure further acknowledges the importance of immigrant families, students, and workers, as well as the intersecting identities and experiences within immigrant communities. It also recognizes the City’s ongoing efforts to support immigrant residents through programs related to citizenship, workforce development, small business support, and youth services.
The resolution affirms the Council’s commitment to supporting immigrant communities and encourages continued efforts across public and private sectors to promote equity, dignity, and inclusion for immigrants throughout Boston.
