National Emergency Medical Services Week

During this week’s Council meeting, the Council adopted a resolution offered by Councilors Pepén and Flynn recognizing May 17 through May 23, 2026, as National Emergency Medical Services Week and honoring the essential work of Boston Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel.

The resolution recognizes the critical role EMS professionals play in responding to 9-1-1 calls involving urgent illnesses, injuries, and life-threatening emergencies. It also highlights the demanding nature of the profession, noting that EMS workers regularly operate in high-pressure situations to provide immediate medical care.

The Council acknowledged Boston EMS as the largest EMS service in New England, employing nearly 400 workers and providing around-the-clock emergency response services for residents across the city.

The resolution further recognized the sacrifice, courage, and contributions of EMS workers and affirmed the Council’s support for emergency medical service professionals and the vital care they provide to the community.
