Creole Week
Observed annually on October 28 since 1983, International Creole Day was promoted globally by UNESCO and various cultural institutions to support Kreyòl and Afro-Creole speakers.
Throughout October, islands like Saint Lucia and regions with rich Louisiana Creole history host month-long events featuring traditional music, dance, local food, and workshops. In addition, the World Creole Music Festival is held annually in Dominica around in October, drawing international and regional artists performing bouyon, zouk, cadence-lypso, and reggae.
In Boston, we are celebrating International Creole Day with a week uplifting community events throughout October 26 - 30, 2026, for the City's first-ever Creole Week! Concluding the week of events with an all-ages gathering, hosted by the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA) on October 31, featuring music, food, traditional clothing and learning.
