How to end a domestic partnership

Last updated:

If you want to terminate or end a domestic partnership, you have two options:

Step
1

Before you get started in person

Please print out and complete a domestic partnership termination form.

The fee to file a termination form is $12. We take cash, a debit card, or a check or money order made payable to the City of Boston.

If you’re the one giving the form to the City Clerk, you need to tell your former partner — in person or by certified mail — that you are ending the partnership.

Step
2

Go to Boston City Hall

Bring your completed form and payment to:

  • City Clerk's Office
  • 1 City Hall Square, Room 601
  • Boston, MA 02201
Office Hours

Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Step
3

Or visit the City Hall to Go Truck

Find out when the truck is in your neighborhood (Drop-offs only).

If you use City Hall to Go, your info is forwarded to the City Clerk. If approved, we will mail you an official letter about the termination within 10 business days.
