City Council celebrates National Italian Heritage Month

Today, the City Council, as well as other elected officials, raised the Italian flag over City Hall Plaza to commemorate Italian Heritage Month.

National Italian Heritage month, formerly known as National Italian-American Heritage month, was first celebrated in October 1989 as a tribute to all Italian-Americans and their culture.

As it stands, there are more than 26 million Americans of Italian descent, making it one of the largest ethnic groups in the nation.
