<p>Description automatically generated Mónica Leitner-Laserna is a bilingual educator, herbalist, chef and business owner of Colombian and Jewish heritage, who for the past several years has been committed to promoting social justice through teaching about the relationship between diet and disease and how to use food as medicine. 

    She holds a master’s degree in bilingual education from Columbia University and has also studied herbalism, yoga and meditation, all of which have greatly influenced her mission of spreading holistic health and wellness.

    She co-founded Eastie Farm in 2015 and loves bringing people to the farm to learn about their work, the importance of local food and environmental justice. She currently is a worker-owner for the Radical Roots Education Consulting Cooperative.

In partnership with the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, Eastie Farm, and the Mayor's Office of New Urban Mechanics, Chef Monica Leitner-Laserna will be conducting a free, pop-up cooking demonstration called “The Secret’s in the Sauce”. Her hourly demos will teach folks how to make a few simple but flavorful sauces that highlight locally grown produce from the farmers market.

This family friendly event will feature all the typical farmers market offerings as well as activities and prizes for kids, information about food access programs, and presentations from local officials.
