Prior to this role, Hawa worked with African immigrants in Boston as an Educational Coordinator for African Community Economic Development of New England (ACEDONE). She was also a call taker with Boston 311 throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, serving residents one-on-one and coordinating with various departments.
Hawa is a native Somali speaker. She grew up in Jamaica Plain, graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Boston with a degree in Business Intelligence, and currently lives in Roxbury with her family. As a longtime Boston resident she enjoys helping local immigrants and making Boston equitable for all.
