Project Information
Trotter School Playground, located in Roxbury, is a welcoming open space connected to the William Monroe Trotter School. The playground covers 1.24 acres and is an important place for both students and neighborhood residents. It includes play areas for children of all ages and abilities, such as a tot lot, updated play structures, and basketball courts for recreation. The playground is mostly flat and easy to navigate, with seating areas for caregivers and visitors to watch and engage with activities.
The site also features an artistic gateway that highlights the character of the neighborhood and defines the park’s boundaries. As part of the school, the playground is used daily by students, but it also functions as a shared community space, providing opportunities for outdoor play, recreation, and social connection.
Upcoming improvements will make the playground even safer, more inclusive, and more enjoyable. Planned work includes:
- Renovated pathways, furnishings, and amenities to improve accessibility
- Updated play areas with inclusive equipment and safety surfacing
- Resurfaced basketball and sport courts
- Upgraded lighting for safety and visibility
- Renovations to the artistic gateway
Trotter School Playground is a key community asset, supporting students, families, and neighbors with a safe, fun, and accessible space for recreation and connection.
