Joe Gilmore
Joseph Gilmore is the Cannabis Fund Manager in the Mayor's Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion, where he oversees the Boston Equity Fund, a component of the Boston Equity Program which provides grant funding to support cannabis licensing for qualified equity applicants who have been negatively impacted by the War On Drugs.
Born and raised in Dorchester and an Economics graduate of UMass Boston, Joe's lived experiences prompted his advocacy for socially equitable cannabis policies and mobilizing residents across the state to engage in the political process throughout the development of the legal cannabis industry. He worked closely with former City Councilor Kim Janey’s team to develop the 2019 Ordinance Establishing Equity in Boston's Cannabis Industry.
Joe has served in leadership roles for several policy reform organizations including: Students for Sensible Drug Policy, Massachusetts Recreational Consumer Council, and National Expungement Week. At his core, Joe is a community-oriented grassroots organizer, passionate about creating economic opportunities for our most marginalized demographics in the City of Boston.
When he's not at City Hall, Joe enjoys attending local events, farmers markets, swimming at his local YMCA, and connecting with local organizations to support and amplify community initiatives.
