The Boston Parks and Recreation Department will hold a virtual public hearing on Thursday, April 7, at 10 a.m. on a request to remove one public shade tree in Roxbury.
DISCUSSION TOPICS
The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. on a request for the removal of one pin oak tree measuring 20 inches dbh (diameter at breast height) due to a park redevelopment project being undertaken by the Boston Public Works Department at Frederick Douglass Memorial Plaza located between Tremont, Cabot, and Hammond Streets in Roxbury.
The hearing will be held by the City of Boston’s Tree Warden (or designee). Please note that due to the current pandemic the hearing will be a virtual meeting via ZOOM. Written comments or questions may be submitted to parks@boston.gov prior to the hearing. The information for the ZOOM hearing is as follows:
Public testimony will be taken or may be provided prior to the hearing in writing to the Tree Warden, Boston Parks and Recreation Department, 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, 3rd floor, Roxbury, MA 02118 or by emailing parks@boston.gov with “Roxbury Tree Hearing” in the subject line.
A final decision regarding the request will be made within two weeks of the hearing. For further information, please contact the Tree Warden at 617-635-7275.

This workshop will be held on Monday, May 2, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. The title of the workshop is "Obsession, Ritual, Tradition", and it will focus on questioning personal and collective traditions during and on the other side of the pandemic.

The City of Boston is working to enhance biking and walking for neighborhood residents. We met you in nine locations locations over seven months in 2019 and 2020 to hear what you love in Lower Roxbury and where you envision changes to your streets. Last summer we met with you virtually and in person to confirm your priorities. Now we are working on next steps.

We're looking for artists to create up to three murals for the basketball courts at Malcolm X Park in Roxbury. Our public art team is holding two virtual question and answer sessions on April 14 at noon and 6 p.m. ET. We encourage all artists or artist teams who are interested to join us to get more information about the call. We'll be answering any questions you have! The deadline to submit questions is April 15, 2022 at 5 p.m. and the deadline to apply is April 29, 2022 at 5 p.m.
