Proposal for New Animal Care Facility
Boston Animal Care and Control provides high quality of care for animals in our custody. We promote responsible pet ownership through humane education. We also ensure effective enforcement of the laws for the welfare of animals and the safety of the community.
This project proposal is to relocate the current City Animal Shelter from Roslindale to the Franklin Park Maintenance Yard in Roxbury. A new building constructed within the bounds of the Maintenance Yard would feature:
- an onsite, affordable pet wellness clinic
- improved animal housing with appropriate species separation
- ample outdoor space with dog play yards, and
- create opportunities for expanded adoption and community programming.
The proposed would also move the administrative offices of the Animal Care and Control Division to the Maintenance Yard. The building will meet or exceed City requirements for fossil fuel use and carbon emissions. It will be a publicly accessible amenity adjacent to Franklin Park.
