Monument Square Landmark District Study Committee Community Engagement Event
The Study Committee for the Monument Square Landmark District will host a free, public event to engage with members of the Charlestown community regarding their work to provide recommendations for designation of the proposed Landmark District. The Study Committee will share updates on the work they’ve done so far, and more!
The public is encouraged to attend to hear about:
- What designation can mean for the neighborhood
- Potential Landmark District boundaries
- The Study Committee and Landmark District designation process
On July 6, 2022, 26 registered voters submitted a petition to the Boston Landmarks Commission to recognize the historic planning and development of the Monument Square area, the neighborhood surrounding the Bunker Hill Monument. The Study Committee is tasked with understanding and documenting the historic, architectural, and archaeological significance of the neighborhood, proposing the district’s boundaries, and crafting recommendations for long-term management of the district that preserve the area’s unique character while allowing thoughtful, context-sensitive growth.
