Joan Lanigan

Program Manager, Boston Centers for Youth & Families

A Boston transplant, Joan grew up in Maryland where she played soccer and lacrosse throughout her time in school. After graduating from Mount Saint Mary’s, she spent a year in Belfast, Northern Ireland, performing cross community, volunteer work between Catholic and Protestant youth. During that time, Joan realized her passion for working within a community, more specifically with it's youth. Upon her return to the States, she accepted a position with Boston Centers for Youth & Families as an Americorps Vista and eventually became a Program Manager with BCYF. Today, Joan oversees City wide programs such as the Boston Spelling Bee, Summer SnapShot program and supports programs and events throughout the network of BCYF sites. Joan is passionate about ensuring Boston youth have access and the opportunity to participate in high quality programming throughout the city of Boston.

When she’s not working, Joan is running around the world competing in marathons. To date, she has completed 19 marathons including five Boston Marathons, and four out of the six world Marathons.
