Lou Mandarini has spent his career working in and around the labor movement as labor lawyer, an executive director to employee benefit funds, and a policy adviser to numerous political leaders.

Prior to joining Mayor Michelle Wu’s Administration, Lou served for several years as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Laborers’ Benefit Funds where he managed the day-to-day operations of a set of multiemployer benefit funds that provide health insurance, pension, and annuity benefits to construction workers and their dependents. Prior to that, Lou was a partner and attorney at Boston’s Segal Roitman LLP, the largest union-side law firm in New England.

Lou has served as labor adviser to Mayor Michelle Wu for more than a decade. He was also a long-time labor adviser to U.S. Senator Elizabeth A. Warren, serving as the Labor Director for Senator Warren’s 2020 U.S. Presidential campaign and her two U.S. Senate campaigns. Lou has also served as an adviser to many other progressive political candidates on labor policy. Prior to law school, Lou worked in communications for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, in urban planning for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and as a newspaper reporter for a number of publications.

Lou is a 2007 graduate of the University of Miami School of Law and a 1998 graduate of Tulane University.
