How to appeal a parking ticket

There are four ways to make an appeal.

Before you get started

For you to make an appeal, you need to give the City the following information:

  • your name and mailing address
  • the nature of your dispute
  • your registration and plate number
  • the state where your car is registered
  • the number for your parking ticket, or tickets, and
  • any supporting evidence if you have it, like photos.

Complete the form online

You can fill out and submit the Constituent Complaint FormWe will send you an email receipt immediately.

Wait for the City's decision

We will mail you our decision in your case. You should get a letter from us within seven to 10 business days.

Bring your application and your information to the Parking Clerk:

  • 1 City Hall Square, Room 224
  • Boston, MA 02201
  • Office hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Or visit the City Hall to Go truck

This option is for drop-offs only. Find out when the truck is in your neighborhood.

If you use City Hall to Go, your info is forwarded to the Parking Clerk. If approved, we will mail you our decision in your case within 10 business days.

Create a letter for your appeal

You need to send a letter to the City that includes:

  • your name and mailing address
  • the nature of your dispute
  • your registration and plate number
  • the state where your car is registered
  • the number for your parking ticket, or tickets, and
  • any supporting evidence if you have it, like photos.

Mail your letter to the City

You can mail your letter to:

  • City of Boston
  • P.O. Box 55800
  • Boston, MA 02205

Wait for the City's decision

After we get your appeal, we will mail you our decision in your case. You should get a letter from us within seven to 10 business days.

To use this option, you need to meet certain requirements:

  • Your car can't be registered in Massachusetts.
  • You can't be a Massachusetts resident.
  • Your ticket can't be more than three weeks old.

  • the nature of your dispute
  • your registration and plate number
  • the state where your car is registered
  • the number for your parking ticket, or tickets, and
