Due to a rising COVID-19 infection rate in the City, all Boston Public Schools students will shift to remote learning effective Thursday, October 22.

City Hall is open to the public on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. If you need to visit a department, you must make an appointment.

Public Facilities

We support other City of Boston departments in the planning, design, construction, and major renovations of City-owned buildings.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Our office is currently closed. As of Monday, July 6, our Bid Counter is located on the 1st floor of 26 Court Street and open on Mondays and Wednesdays. The Bid Counter will be open to the public for scheduled bid openings. All visits to the Bid Counter outside of bid openings will require an appointment. To make an appointment to visit the Bid Counter, please use our online scheduler. The bid counter is closed between the hours of 12 - 1 p.m. on days bids are not due.

Due to ongoing public health precautions that the City is taking due to COVID-19, the Public Facilities Bid Room will only be available by appointment, except during scheduled bid openings.

If you are looking for any bid documentation, you can email bid.info@boston.gov.

Temporary hours of the Bid Room: 
  • Mondays, 9 - 5 p.m.
  • Wednesdays, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

This schedule was created based on currently scheduled bids. We will update as needed. Once the pandemic has subsided, we will revert to our normal business hours. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The Bid Counter has relocated to the first floor of 26 Court Street.

We also ensure that City buildings are accessible to all residents, meet or exceed life safety codes, and are constructed with maximum efficiency and sustainability in mind.

Our legal staff ensures that our contracting processes follow these Massachusetts General Laws:

The Operations and Construction Unit of our department manages capital construction projects from their beginning to end. Our Planning and Management Unit tracks projects, keeps information on schedules and budgets, and manages annual Capital Planning, Master Planning processes, and the Management Information System.
