Bennington / Saratoga Safety Project
We’re making changes at the intersection of Bennington Street and Saratoga Street in East Boston to make everyday travel safer and more comfortable
Project Phase
Project Information
The intersection of Bennington Street and Saratoga Street is a key gateway to East Boston from Revere to the north and Winthrop to the east. It is also a complex intersection where two major streets meet at a skewed angle. The intersection is busy, with high volumes of traffic traveling in all directions and substantial pedestrian activity. Orient Heights Station, serving the MBTA Blue Line and major bus routes, is also located around the corner.
We are investing in making the Bennington/Saratoga intersection safer and more comfortable for everyone who travels through. We will develop a design that reflects community priorities, improves the experience for all users, and supports East Boston’s growth.
This project is funded by an Implementation Grant from the Federal Highway Administration’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
PROJECT GOALS
Based on what we’ve heard from you, we’re working to develop a design that improves everyday safety. Our goals are to:
- Make it safer and easier to cross the street
- Improve how vehicle traffic flows through the intersection
WHY NOW?
As part of the PLAN: East Boston initiative, residents of East Boston identified the Bennington/Saratoga intersection as a barrier between the Orient Heights MBTA Station and community destinations around the Orient Heights Square and Constitution Beach.
We have funding to design and build safety upgrades through the Safe Streets and Roads for All program. This project is an opportunity to build on past planning work and community input to make meaningful safety improvements at this intersection.
As we move forward, we’ll continue working with the community to refine the designs and make sure it reflects local needs.
