People attending these events are encouraged to walk, bike, or take public transit. Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, may be found on the website and information on the MBTA may be found online. The MBTA advises riders to purchase a round-trip rather than a one-way ticket for a faster return trip. Walking is also a great way to move around.

Events such as parades, road races, and street fairs may require road closures to accommodate the activities.

BACK BAY 

Open Newbury Street Series – Sundays, from July 12, 2026, through to October 11, 2026

Sunday, July 12, 2026 will be the first Sunday in a series of when the City of Boston will once again transform Newbury Street into a pedestrian-only walkway. The street will become car free to allow shoppers, diners and pedestrians to use the full width of the street. Arlington Street, Berkeley Street, Clarendon Street, Dartmouth Street & Exeter Street will all remain open, while Fairfield Street, Gloucester Street, and Hereford Street will be closed at Newbury Street. A 15-minute drop off and pick up area on Berkeley Street and Clarendon Street will be implemented. Additionally, a handicapped parking zone will also be put in place on Berkeley Street.

Fenway Park will be the venue for two upcoming concerts by eleven-time Grammy Award winner Chris Stapleton. The first concert is scheduled for Friday, August 14, followed by another on Saturday, August 15.

The Dominican Parade will be taking place on Sunday August 16. The annual parade will form at Hyde Square, beginning at 12:00 p.m., and proceed along the traditional route: leaving Perkins Street, straight on to Centre Street, left on to Columbus Avenue right on Walnut Avenue, ending at Franklin Park.

The annual Saint Anthony / Saint Lucy Festival will occur in the same locations within the North End as in the past, with set-up beginning on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 and breakdown on Monday, August 31, 2026.

ROSLINDALE

Canterbury Street Bridge Closure - Friday, September 12, 2025, Until Further Notice

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that the Canterbury Street Bridge will be closing to vehicular traffic on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 9:00 p.m.  Findings from a recent bridge inspection required the closure of the bridge. The bridge will be closed until further notice. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Traffic should follow the detour signage in place.  The primary detour route will utilize Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street, Brown Avenue, and Seymour Street. The eastbound detour will follow Seymour Street to Brown Avenue to Cummins Highway. The westbound detour will follow Hyde Park Avenue to Cummins Highway to Rowe Street to Seymour Street.

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

ROXBURY

Caribbean Carnival and Parades - Saturday, August 29, 2026 

The annual Caribbean Carnival will be held on Saturday, August 29, with two separate parades. 

The first parade, the Jouvert Parade, begins at 6:30 a.m. on Circuit Drive near the Shattuck Hospital, heading north to Franklin Park Road, and ending at Blue Hill Avenue. 

The second parade, the Caribbean Carnival, begins at 1:00 p.m. on Warren Street at Martin Luther King Boulevard and proceeds on Warren Street to Blue Hill Avenue ending on Blue Hill Avenue at the Circuit Drive Entrance (Peabody Circle) for Franklin Park. Formation for the Carnival Parade occurs on Martin Luther King Boulevard between Warren Street and Washington Street.

Roadways along the route will be closed for the Carnival parade. Parking restrictions will be in effect throughout Saturday on the following streets:

WNBA Connecticut Sun Event - Tuesday, August 18, 2026

The Connecticut Sun of the WNBA will host an event on Canal Street between New Chardon Street and Causeway Street on Tuesday, August 18. Rip Valenti Way will remain open to travel. Canal Street from Rip Valenti Way to Causeway Street will be used for the event and from New Chardon Street to Valenti Way will be used for production vehicles.
