Public Works Department reminds residents of leaf and yard waste collection

The Boston Public Works Department (PWD) is reminding residents that leaves can be left out with recycling through December 4, 2015.

Weekly collection schedule varies by neighborhood and can be found here.Barrels, bags and branches should be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on recycling days. Residents with two recycling days, will have leaf collection on the first recycling day each week.

How to prepare your leaves and yard waste for collection:

  • Place leaves and yard waste in large paper leaf bags or open barrels labeled “yard waste” (no plastic bags).  Yard Waste stickers for barrels are available by calling (617) 635-4500 or can be ordered online.
  • Tie branches with string: 3’ maximum length. 1” max. diameter. Do not put branches in barrels.

Due to the efforts of residents and PWD last year, over 7,000 tons of yard was was saved from the trash. For more information, visit Boston.gov.
