People attending these events are encouraged to walk, bike, or take public transit. Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, may be found on the website and information on the MBTA may be found online. The MBTA advises riders to purchase a round-trip rather than a one-way ticket for a faster return trip. Walking is also a great way to move around.

Events such as parades, road races, and street fairs may require road closures to accommodate the activities.

ALLSTON-BRIGHTON

Allston Village Street Fair - Sunday, September 27, 2026 

The Parents and Community Build Group, Inc. will be holding the Allston Village Street Fair on Harvard Avenue on Sunday, September 27. Parking restrictions will be in place throughout Sunday on the following streets: 

• Harvard Avenue - Both sides, from Cambridge Street to Brighton Avenue
• Harvard Terrace - Both sides, from Harvard Avenue to the dead end
• Farrington Street - Both sides, from Harvard Avenue to Highgate Street
• Gardner Street - Both sides, from Harvard Avenue to Linden Street

Allston-Brighton Parade and Brian J. Honan 5K Run/Walk - Sunday, September 27, 2026 

The annual Allston-Brighton Parade will be held on Sunday, September 27, stepping off at 1 p.m. The parade will process along Brighton Avenue, Union Square, Cambridge Street, Brighton Center, Washington Street, and Oak Square. 

Additionally, the annual Brian J. Honan 5K Run/Walk will begin at 12 p.m., using much of the same route as the parade. 

Parking will be restricted along route, specifically along the following streets: 

• Brighton Avenue - North side, outbound roadway, from Malvern Street to Harvard Avenue
• Faneuil Street - South side (park side), from opposite Adair Street to opposite #365 Faneuil Street
• Tremont Street - North side (school side), from Washington Street to Tip Top Street
• Brighton Avenue - North side, outbound roadway, from Harvard Avenue to Cambridge Street
• Cambridge Street - Both sides, from Brighton Avenue to Washington Street
• Washington Street - Both sides, from Cambridge Street to Oak Square

BACK BAY

“The Great Elephant Migration” - Monday, September 14 and Tuesday, September 15, 2026

The organizers of the “Great Elephant Migration” will conclude the display and remove the elephants, which will require some temporary road closures. 

On Monday, September 14 from 7 p.m. to 12 midnight, Commonwealth Avenue (outbound/going away from Boston Common) between Exeter Street and Fairfield Street will be closed. 

On Tuesday, September 15 from 7 p.m. to 12 midnight, Commonwealth Avenue (outbound) between Dartmouth Street and Exeter Street will be closed. 

The other side of Commonwealth Avenue (inbound/going towards Boston Common) will be open as normal.

Open Newbury Street Series - Sundays, from July 12 to October 11, 2026

Sunday, July 12, 2026 will be the first Sunday in a series of when the City of Boston will once again transform Newbury Street into a pedestrian-only walkway. The street will become car free to allow shoppers, diners and pedestrians to use the full width of the street. Arlington Street, Berkeley Street, Clarendon Street, Dartmouth Street & Exeter Street will all remain open, while Fairfield Street, Gloucester Street, and Hereford Street will be closed at Newbury Street. A 15-minute drop off and pick up area on Berkeley Street and Clarendon Street will be implemented. Additionally, a handicapped parking zone will also be put in place on Berkeley Street.

Chinatown Main Street Lantern Festival - Saturday, September 12, 2026

The Lantern Festival, sponsored by the Chinatown Main Street Program, will take place on Saturday, September 12. Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on the following streets on Saturday: 

• Beach Street - Both sides, from J. F. Fitzgerald Expressway Surface Road to Tyler Street
• Hudson Street - Both sides, from Kneeland Street to Beach Street

Chinatown Taiwan Night Market - Saturday, September 19, 2026

The Chinatown Taiwan Night Market, sponsored by the Chinatown Business Association, will take place on Saturday, September 19. Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the following streets: 

• Beach Street - Both sides, from Hudson Street to Harrison Avenue
• Hudson Street - Both sides, from Kneeland Street to Beach Street
• Tyler Street - Both sides, from Kneeland Street to Beach Street

Mission Hill Road Race 2026 - Saturday, September 26, 2026 

The annual Mission Hill Road Race will take place on Saturday, September 26. Runners and walkers will follow a route beginning and ending at St. Alphonsus Street at Puddingstone Park throughout the Mission Hill neighborhood. Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following streets: 

• St. Alphonsus Street - Both sides, from Tremont Street to Calumet Street
• Calumet Street - East side (even side), from St. Alphonsus Street to Hillside Street

ROSLINDALE

Canterbury Street Bridge Closure - Effective Friday, September 12, 2025, Until Further Notice

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that the Canterbury Street Bridge will be closing to vehicular traffic on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 9:00 p.m.  Findings from a recent bridge inspection required the closure of the bridge. The bridge will be closed until further notice. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Traffic should follow the detour signage in place.  The primary detour route will utilize Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street, Brown Avenue, and Seymour Street. The eastbound detour will follow Seymour Street to Brown Avenue to Cummins Highway. The westbound detour will follow Hyde Park Avenue to Cummins Highway to Rowe Street to Seymour Street.

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

ROXBURY

The Road to Wellness 5K - Saturday, September 12, 2026

The Road to Wellness 5K road race, hosted by the Dimock Center, will start at 9 a.m. and end around 11 a.m. on September 12. The race will proceed along the following route: 

Begin at 41 Dimock Street, left onto Washington Street, left onto Marcella Street, right onto Centre Street, right onto Roxbury Street at John Elliot Square, right onto Bartlett Street, right onto Washington Street, left onto Dale Street, right onto Walnut Street, to Humboldt Avenue, right onto Martin Luther King Blvd, left onto Walnut Street, right onto Westminster Avenue, right onto Washington Street, left onto Dimock Street, finishing at 41 Dimock Street.

SOUTH BOSTON

South Boston Street Festival - Saturday, September 19, 2026 

The annual South Boston Street Festival will take place on Saturday, September 19 on East Broadway, between I Street and L Street. Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on the following streets on Saturday: 

• East Broadway - Both sides, from I street to L Street
• Municipal Parking Lot (off East Broadway, by the Boston Public Library) - All spaces within parking lot
• L Street - West side (odd side), from L Street heading southerly for the first two street lights
• K Street - Both sides, from East Third Street to Emerson Street

Colin’s Joy Project 5K - Saturday, September 26, 2026 

The annual Colin’s Joy 5K road race will take place on Saturday, September 26. The event will begin at 8:15 a.m. with 2 youth races, followed by a 5K course along South Boston beaches. Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the following street: 

• East Broadway - Both sides, from O Street to P Street; North side (school side), from O Street to #858 East Broadway

MBTA Orange Line Diversion - Thursday, September 10 to Monday, September 14, 2026 

Shuttle buses will replace service between Back Bay and Forest Hills from September 10-14 to allow for work on the Ruggles Station Improvement Project. Free and accessible shuttle buses will make stops between Back Bay and Forest Hills.
