Highland Park - Scattered Open Space

Project Stage

Over 14,000 square feet are under consideration for preservation as open space in the Highland Park neighborhood of Roxbury. A community meeting was held in January 2021, in partnership with the Highland Park Project Review Committee, to solicit feedback on this suggested permanent use.

Washington Street Urban Wild

Project Stage

Over 32,000 square feet is being made available for possible preservation as open space. A community meeting was held in December 2020, and support was strong for the use of this site as an urban wild, community pathway, and food forest. An RFP is expected to be issued by spring 2021.

Melnea Cass Blvd - Potential Community Garden Preservation

Project Stage

The site is 26,906 sq. ft. of vacant land on Melnea Cass Blvd/Windsor Street near the South End/Roxbury border. There is community interest in the permanent preservation of these two parcels as open space including continued use as a community garden. A community meeting was held in 2020 and support for this preservation was strong. An RFP is expected to be issued in 2021.

Elmont | Norwell Neighborhood Homes

Project Stage

The development site involves 6 parcels of vacant, City-owned land located on Norwell Street and neighboring streets in Dorchester. Many of the parcels are suitable for development for new homeownership housing as part of the City's Neighborhood Homes Initiative (NHI). Under NHI, DND works with abutters and community partners to define model home designs and development criteria for new mixed income housing to be included in housing Request for Proposals (RFP).

DND looks forward to holding community meetings and discussing potential development options on this site.
