Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Non-Event with experimental music and inflatable sculptures inside Boston City Hall, featuring Evicshen's long-awaited return to Boston!

Non-Event is a concert series that supports and fosters the experimental music community in Greater Boston. Since 2001, they have hosted more than 500 concerts and programs featuring a mix of local, national, and international artists in a wide variety of venues and non-traditional spaces across Boston.

About the artists

Victoria Shen (Evicshen) is a sound artist, experimental music performer, and instrument-maker, who was long based in Boston, but now lives in San Francisco. Shen's sound practice is concerned with the spatiality/physicality of sound and its relationship to the human body. Her music features analog modular synthesizers, vinyl/resin records, and self-built electronics. Eschewing conventions in harmony and rhythm in favor of extreme textures and gestural tones, Shen uses what she calls "chaotic sound" to oppose signal and information, eluding traditionally embedded meaning.

Cursed Image is the art and sound duo of Caleb Chase and Kelly Chen. They utilize amplified box fans and large inflatable sculptures to transform spaces sonically and spatially. Their performances combine mechanical humming of fans with the rustling of plastic and balloon forms and the sounds and feelings of moving air. This project reimagines the ways we interact with everyday objects and examines possibilities of how one can transform environments.

Caleb Chase a multi-disciplinary artist, musician, and curator based in Worcester, MA. They work in a variety of media from sculpture, painting, puppetry, video and installation to interactive sound works and event organizing. As a musician they perform and release music in a variety of forms and with global collaborators. They currently organize events at The Firehouse and curate art shows for Horse Room in Worcester.

Kelly Chen is a writer, researcher, and educator based in Boston, MA. Her performances involve site specific collective action, occupying real spaces with noise and plays. Her interests include the history of technology and methods in preservation for audiovisual objects. She was a Teaching Fellow with the Processing Foundation in 2023, teacher for the School for Poetic Computation in Spring 2025, and currently the lead artist for the Museum of Fine Arts Community Art Initiative Artist Project 2025-26.

Kelly Bray is a trumpet player and improvisor known for dynamic and adventurous performances bridging genres ranging from free jazz to ambient music. She is a regular in the New York City and Boston improvised music scenes, making appearances alongside long respected musicians such as Joe Morris, Brandon Lopez, and Alan Braufman. Recently she supported claire rousay at The Rockwell in Somerville, MA, presenting a set described as "a tour de force of electroacoustic trumpet pyrotechnics".
