The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services liaisons hosts weekly Coffee Hours located conveniently in each neighborhood. This is an opportunity to connect with your neighborhood liaison to receive support connecting with City departments, addressing any concerns, or just to say hello to connect joyfully.

A Serve and Learn event is a chance for community members to learn about wildlife, plants, and how we can care for our natural world. Not only can people "learn" through these events, but they can also put their newfound knowledge to work during the "serve" portion.

In this Serve and Learn, Urban Wilds staff will demonstrate proper "dormant season seeding practices" and discuss the complexities of establishing native seed in urban areas. Volunteers will have the opportunity to install native woodland seed mix in a woodland area adjacent to the Walter Street entrance. This area previously had a dense cover of invasive plants, and the new seed will help to stabilize bare soil, as well as provide wildlife habitat. 

* Please note that due to the involved nature of seed installation, staffing capacity, and the limited amount of space in the planting area, we cannot guarantee that all volunteers will have the opportunity to seed. We will be monitoring the sign-ups and will offer up planting slots on a first come first basis. In addition to the planting, we will also offer an invasive plant removal component for volunteers that are interested. 

Planting tools and gloves will be supplied, but if you have a favorite planting tool or pair of gloves, feel free to bring them!

What happens when generations come together to share their creativity? Join the Age Strong Commission's Creative Aging program and the Office of Youth Engagement and Advancement (OYEA) for a special edition of Open Circuit at The Substation!

This intergenerational open mic brings older adults and young people together to share their talents, exchange ideas, and inspire one another. With a live band, spontaneous performances, collaborative art-making, and plenty of opportunities to connect, the evening will be shaped by the people in the room. Come ready to perform, create, connect, or simply enjoy the unexpected!

Mayor Wu’s Neighborhood Coffee Hours are a unique opportunity to speak directly with the Mayor and staff from City departments about open space and their neighborhoods. If there are inclement weather conditions, the time and location may change to an indoor location and will be reflected on this event page.

A neighborhood staple known for bringing the community together over a cup of coffee, Dunkin’ is back to fuel the conversation with iced coffee and donuts. Dunkin’ will also provide lawn game activities for attendees, gift card giveaways, and the opportunity for residents to win a raffle prize. Free flowering plants will be provided by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and fresh fruit will be provided by Star Market, while supplies last.

Get ready to celebrate the first-ever Open Streets Boston event in Roslindale! This family-friendly, pedestrian-focused event will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will transform Roslindale Square between Belgrade Avenue and Washington Street into a vibrant, car-free area where people can dream, play, and explore. Open Streets Boston in Roslindale will feature live music, food trucks, kid's activities, and much more!
