Mark your calendar and bring your friends and family to a fun and free Neighborhood Fun Fest and learn more about your neighborhood community center!  The Fun Fest will be held on Thursday, July 24, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at BCYF Ohrenberger Community Center, 175 West Boundary Road in West Roxbury.

The BCYF Fun Fest will offer a variety of free activities including a gaming truck, dunk tank, DJ, dance presentation from The Friends of the Chinese, Photobooth, bouncy house, Boston Fire Department truck, cotton candy, snow cone, ice cream truck, food truck, raffle, art table, and information about BCYF Ohrenberger Community Center’s programming and activities.  

In the case of rain or other weather issues, please check BCYF’s social media sites, @BCYFCenters (or BCYF.boston.gov on Bluesky), for updates. Additional Fun Fests will be held over the course of the summer including July 31 at BCYF Mattahunt in Mattapan, August 7 at BCYF Mirabella Pool in the North End and August 14 at BCYFShelburne Community Center in Roxbury.

Please join us for a Hero Square Dedication for the Roddy brothers on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at the intersection of Stratford Street and Kenneth Street in West Roxbury. 

Thomas Roddy was born on April 12, 1917, and raised in Boston. He graduated from Dearborn Grammar and Boston Latin School In 1935. He also attended Boston College before he joined the Navy in 1940. Thomas loved to sing Irish ballads and a yearly shamrock from Ireland. On November 13, 1942, Lieutenant Roddy was killed aboard the U.S.S. Juneau when the Japanese fired a torpedo at the Atlanta-class light cruiser during World War II. Thomas Roddy was the recipient of a Purple Heart and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.

William Roddy was born on August 6, 1923, and raised in Boston. On May 30, 1945, Seaman 2nd Class Roddy was killed while aboard the U.S.S Barr, which was struck by a torpedo from a German submarine. William was a recipient of a Purple Heart and the European- African- Middle Eastern Campaign Medal Captain. William and Thomas were survived by his parents Luke and Mary Ellen Roddy and there siblings and relatives who currently reside in West Roxbury.
