Franklin Park Natural Areas Restoration
The Urban Wilds Division of Parks and Recreation is leading the ecological restoration of Franklin Park’s 225 acres of diverse natural habitat for the benefit of both the environment and park users.
Natural areas were a key part of the original design for Frederick Law Olmsted’s “country park” and continue to be a vital part of Franklin Park. Including over 225 acres of forest, meadow, and wetlands across the park, these natural areas are both home to many plants and animals, and a major draw for park visitors. However, decades of disinvestment in the stewardship of these areas has left them severely degraded. Park and Recreation's Urban Wilds division is now leading efforts to restore and maintain the ecology and landscape throughout the park's vast natural areas. This project honors the historical design of Franklin Park and is guided by the Franklin Park Action Plan, with the goal of revitalizing the park's unique natural areas for all. 125W 756C
