Melissa Meyer

Director of Cultural Planning
As Director of Cultural Planning, Melissa (pronouns: she/her/hers) is responsible for integrating cultural planning guidelines, policy, and research into City planning and development to create more spaces and opportunities for the local arts and creative community to affordably live, work, and create in Boston. Her role includes liaising with other City departments and public agencies and managing arts and culture planning initiatives.
Originally from South Africa, Melissa spent several years working across urban research, urban planning, and policy-making in London. Her previous work includes leading in-depth studies of places of work and industrial locations, social infrastructure networks, wide-ranging cultural infrastructure planning, and innovative research relating to the social value of places. She previously held roles in the Mayor of London’s Regeneration and Social Integration teams as well as in urbanism and design practices serving the public sector. She holds a master's degree in City Design and Social Studies from London School of Economics. 
Melissa moved to Boston in 2020 and is a resident of Jamaica Plain.
