Veterans Services

COVID-19 update: Please review our current services page for the latest information. Are you a veteran in need of help or just a buddy to correspond or talk to? Our penpals and buddies program might be for you.

We recognize, engage, and advocate for our veterans and their families, by connecting them with the services and resources they've earned.

Our department oversees the financial assistance program known as Massachusetts General Law Chapter 115. This includes the decoration of veterans' graves and hero squares on Memorial Day. We also carry out commemorative activities related to Boston veterans. To apply for Chapter 115, please complete our form:

One Boston Day cards for veterans

This One Boston Day, the Office of Veterans Services is collecting cards for veterans! We’ll distribute the cards through our network. We’re looking for cards thanking veterans for their service, but feel free to be creative!

If kids want to participate, veterans love getting drawings and poems. Feel free to share a quick story about you or a family member who served, or talk about what service means to you.

Where do I send my card?

Send cards to:
Office of Veterans’ Services
43 Hawkins Street, Suite 3A
Boston, MA 02114

Veterans Services will distribute the cards to veterans through VFW Posts, the VA, and other veterans organizations.

What should I write?

Write or draw whatever you want! Whether it’s a note saying “thank you for your service,” a story about you or a family member who served, or a drawing, anything is great! You can talk about what One Boston Day means to you or what you like about Boston. Be creative!

What if I know of a veteran or organization who would like cards?

Please let us know! We’re always looking for new ways to thank and honor our veterans.
