Franklin Park: Tennis Expansion

As part of the Franklin Park Action Plan, the Shattuck Picnic Grove / Ellicottdale is identified as a magnet destination supporting a diverse range of active and passive recreational activities.  This is a heavily utilized area for family reunions, Juneteenth celebrations, tennis lessons, picnicking and general park use.

The Franklin Park tennis expansion project will kick off in late October or early November with archaeological test pits being dug. The project will then roll into construction on Phase 1 of work, which will be the tennis courts. The goal is to re-open the tennis courts for the beginning to middle of the Boston Public Schools tennis season and in time for the Franklin Park Tennis Association's start. Phase 2 of the work will be upgrades to the picnic grove which will start at the end of June or early July 2026 in order to ensure that the picnic area is available for Juneteenth celebrations.
