We accept, file, record, and maintain all municipal records for Boston. For the public, we issue various licenses and permits and can notarize and attest to documents.
At the City Clerk's Office, we can help you:
- file a claim for injuries or damages with the City of Boston
- get a business certificate, and
- get married through the City Clerk's Office.

City Council Meetings
keepING UP WITH CITY COUNCIL:
- Check the Public Notices page to see when the City Council will meet to discuss different topics. The City Council has a general meeting every Wednesday at 12 p.m.
- You can find agendas for upcoming City Council Meetings online, or at our office after 4 p.m. on the Monday before a meeting.
- City Council Meetings can be viewed live on this boston.gov webpage or on YouTube
- City Council meeting minutes are available online or through our office after 4 p.m. on the Friday after the meeting. You can also search online to see how City Council members voted on different issues.

The City uses Legistar to organize information about City Council activities. On the website, you can find agendas, minutes and video recordings of past meetings since 2011.

The City Clerk's office also oversees the City Archives team. The City Archives team manages, preserves, and provides access to the municipal government records of Boston. You can find out more about the work of the City Archives team.

Please note: The following are NOT reasons to visit the City Clerk's Office:
Contact the Registry Department if you want to file for a marriage license or have requests for birth and death certificates. You can contact the department at 617-635-4175 or registry@boston.gov.
Contact the Parking Clerk's Office if you want to:
- file for a resident parking permit
- file for a moving permit, or
- pay a parking ticket.
