Memory Cafe
A Memory Café is a welcoming place for people with forgetfulness or other changes in their thinking.
Memory cafés meet at a variety of places, including coffeehouses, museums, or community organizations. Each memory café is different. Some cafés invite guest artists, some offer education about memory changes. And some are just for relaxing and chatting. But, all cafés share one goal — to help guests feel comfortable and to know that they are not alone. Cafés are a place to talk with others who understand what you are going through. You can forget about your limitations and instead focus on your strengths.
CODMAN SQUARE BRANCH OF THE BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
690 Washington Street, Dorchester
Meets the second Wednesday of every month, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

PTSD Awareness Golf Tournament
Join us for a PTSD Awareness Golf Tournament event on Monday, June 23, 2025 from 08 a.m. to 2 p.m.
We are hosting a PTSD Awareness Golf Tournament event on Monday, June 23, 2025 from 08 a.m. to 2 p.m..
The locations of this event William J. Devine Golf Course, 1 Circuit Drive, Dorchester, MA 02121.
Registration is limited and priority will be given to veterans and their families, but we will have a waiting list so we encourage all to register.
This event is to raise awareness within the community of the signs and symptoms of PTSD and mental health issues that veterans may face. Connect veterans struggling with PTSD and mental health related symptoms to resources and programs that can assist them. Build a community of support for veterans and their families through the incorporation of the sport of golf.
PTSD can be caused by several factors. It is most notably caused by being thrust into a combat situation that adds an overwhelming amount of stress to an already stressful situation, which may include actions during war, politics around the world, location of combat, and the type of enemy faced. Moreover, in addition to being in a highly stressful environment, a large number of veterans have reportedly experienced sexual assault as well as sexual harassment when in active duty.
Historically, PTSD has been recorded from as far back as 50BC by a war soldier who was haunted by PTSD-like flashbacks and these symptoms have since been consistently mentioned with different labels because of its unfamiliarity.
In 1980, PTSD was officially acknowledged in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM). National PTSD Awareness Day was recognized on June 27th in 2010 in honor of a North Dakota National Guard member who had committed suicide after two tours of duty in Iraq, and in 2014, the month of June was recognized as PTSD Awareness Month.
