Information on the Former Lewis Chemical Corporation

In January 2023—at the request of the City of Boston and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP)—the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conducted an evaluation of the former Lewis Chemical site and accepted it into its Removal Action program. The EPA has allocated approximately $4 million to conduct extensive remediation at the site starting during the summer of 2023 through early 2024. Below are documents provided by the EPA, including an Action Memorandum with background on the site and the proposed cleanup activities as well as regular update documents (Pollution Reports) summarizing progress for the cleanup effort.
