Colleen Flanagan

Engagement and Outreach Specialist

As a disabled woman, Colleen brings important lived experience to her position at the Mayor's Commission for Persons with Disabilities as the Outreach & Engagement Specialist. She leads community engagement initiatives to make sure Boston’s disability community can access all that the City of Boston has to offer.  Colleen manages the Commission's Facebook, Twitter, and other digital platforms. She is an expert in making digital content accessible to people with disabilities. At the Mayor's Commission for Persons with Disabilities she creates content that tells the story of Boston's disability community, and illustrates resources available to the people with disabilities and the general  public.

 

Prior to joining the Mayor’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Colleen worked for a variety of community based organizations that worked to dismantle ableism and empower people with disabilities to live their best lives. She is a longtime activist for disability rights and justice. She has led several grassroots initiatives to advance the disability rights movement on national and local levels. She is an avid gardener and longtime community organizer in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood.
